Fascinating picture: 1963!

Found this piece of art of Bill Stettner:
“Martin Luther King had just been assassinated, as had Kennedy. America was a racial mess. Sure, people were talking about racial integration – as though things had changed. But just below the surface it was as it had always been – all the bigotry and hatred. I suppose my most satisfying image is the double face - but most people never understood it".

'The Double Face', © Bill Stettner 1963

“I wanted to make a picture that made the point that underneath it all, we’re all the same.  I wanted to take a picture of ordinary blue-collar workers – a sort of Avedon close up – using a black man for one half of the face, and a white man for the other – so that the black man looked like the shadow side of the white man’s face.

“These days this would simple with computers - but back in 1963 it all had to be done in the camera. I had a huge casting session that went on for ever, and eventually , shot 36 sheets of 5” x 4” film of the white guy – cross lit from the right. At this stage I hadn’t found a black face that matched and I didn’t for quite a while – in fact the film stayed untouched in the slide holders for two months.

“Most of the art directors who saw this portrait thought it was some weird white guy with a fat lip, and threw the print into the bin! When I explained it to them, they got embarrassed and didn’t want to talk about it. It definitely wasn’t a commercial success!”

Český Krumlov

About 3 hours driving from Prague (190km) is Český Krumlov (UNESCO) the unique historical town in Czech Republic with its famous Castle Complex (one of the largest in Central Europe), the Baroque Theater (pearl of the World Cultural Heritage) and the beautiful medievalist historical center, with its winding alleys and venerable gothic and renaissance houses, many galleries, little shops and inns.

I took so many pictures of it that I can't decide which one should be uploaded so I'll post my preferred ones:

Take a look at how amazingly the Vltava river embraces the little ancient town!  You can even do canoeing on the river: watch out, high traffic on Sundays ;-)

Apollo Gumpert

I do have a passion for cars and not because I love cars rather due to the fact that I have 3 men at home and I have no choice then being an involuntary car lover.
Even though this car literally quickened my pulse when I saw it in the rear-view mirror. Smoothly he approaches from behind, I let him overtake (cause I need to take a picture, of course) and suddenly his almost 800hp start roaring: goosebumbs! What a beautiful beast... Hope to see you again soon :-)

The only thing that bothers me is the name: Apollo GUMPERT? I know Roland Gumpert is the baby's dad, but couldn't he have also nourished his ego calling it just Apollo Roland or maybe Apollo Ro or Apollo RG? A matter of taste (or marketing) I guess....

Curious about the price? 300,000€ for the basic model, 400,000€ for the S-Version and 500,000€ for the "non-street-authorized" model ;-)))

Beautiful stranger

This is a beautiful stranger that gets all the attention at the hotel The Augustine in Prague. Smoothly and proud of his colorful beauty he strolls around the courtyard of the Lichfield Restaurant, captivating guests and admirers!

If you're planning a well deserved getaway weekend or a family summer break or if you're looking for the perfect wedding location this is the place to be!

Busy weekend

This really was a busy weekend: fortunately we were in the white car and suffered less structural damage, but got all the impact from behind. The day after nice neck pain & headache :-(
